“Under Secretary Sherman will begin son travel in Istanbul and Ankara, Turkey from March 4 to 5 to meet with Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Önal and other officials will discuss [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s premeditated, unprovoked and unjustified remarks invasion of Ukraine,” said a statement from the ministry.
“The MP’s meetings will include discussions on continued U.S.-Turkish joint cooperation and our common interest in supporting Ukraine.”
Recently, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and son American counterpart Antony Blinken discussed the latest developments in Ukraine.
In a phone call with american secretary of State Blinken, Çavuşoğlu reiterated that Turkey rejects military transaction in Ukraine, which it considers a serious violation of international law, the Foreign Ministry said.
He also stressed that Turkey will continue to support territorial integrity, political unity and sovereignty of Ukraine, it added.
Earlier on Thursday, Ukraine and Russia reached an agreement on joint benefit of humanitarian corridors to evacuate civilians second round of negotiations between the parties are continuing. The agreement also includes temporary fire shutdown during evacuations.
Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak said the parties had discussed humanitarian corridors and agreed to talk again.
“To our great regret, we did not have the results we were counting on”, said Podoliak.
Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked son Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to “stop this war”, emphasizing the need for the two leaders to speak without preconditions.
