Oleksiy Aristovych, an adviser to the head of the Cabinet of the President of Ukraine, has resigned after being criticized for claiming that Ukrainian air defenses caused a residential building explosion in Dnepropetrovsk, after Aristovych retracted his claim that a rocket that hit a multi-storey building on Saturday house in the city of Dnepropetrovsk, was shot down by the Ukrainian air defense system.
He wrote on Telegram this morning, Tuesday: “I made a huge mistake on the air. It doesn’t matter why the public heard this, but from now on I will be more careful and accurate in handling the information I speak about. I sincerely apologize to the victims and their families, as well as residents of the Dnieper (Ukrainian name) Dnepropetrovsk).
Shortly after, he added in another post, “I wrote my resignation letter. I want to set an example of civilized behavior – (by committing) a serious mistake that requires resignation.
Earlier, the mayor of Dnipropetrovsk had sharply criticized Aristovich for questioning the Ukrainian authorities’ version that the building was hit by a Russian missile and called on the intelligence and counterintelligence bureau to give a “necessary response” to his statements, while the Ukrainian Rada ( parliament) began collecting signatures for the dismissal of Aristovich.
Yesterday, Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting on Kyiv’s attempts to hold Russia responsible for the destruction of a residential building in Dnepropetrovsk, confirmed that Russian forces are not targeting residential buildings and social infrastructure in Ukraine.
