Abdul Latif Afridi, the former head of the Pakistan Bar, was killed today, Monday, in the Peshawar High Court building by a lawyer. Radio Pakistan reported that the lawyer shot Afridi in the premises of the Peshawar High Court Bar. The police immediately detained the killer, and the body was taken to the hospital for an autopsy. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif strongly condemned the killing of Afridi, stressing that “the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should punish those responsible for the terrorist attack and apply the maximum punishment to him.”
He also praised Afridi’s work, stating that “Abdul Latif Afridi has been fighting for the rule of law, democracy and human rights all his life. This fight will continue.” Interior Minister Rana Sanalla strongly condemned the killing of Abdul Latif Afridi. He expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “The perpetrators of this heinous crime must face the most severe penalties in accordance with the law,” he said.
