Starting today, Iranian activists are embarking on a new wave of protests to inflict economic damage on Iran, which has been in turmoil across the country for more than two months.
The activists said that as many shops as possible, especially in economic centers such as bazaars in large cities, should remain closed until next Wednesday. Iran has witnessed nationwide protests following the death of Kurdish Mahsa Amini, who was arrested by Iranian vice police for violating a strict dress code for women, and a few strands of hair are said to have been visible from under her headscarf.
Mahsa died in police custody days after her arrest in mid-September, Iranian Attorney General Mohammad Jafar Montazeri said, and calls for more protests came at a time when the Iranian leadership reportedly decided to disband the vice police.
