An F-35 fighter jet that skidded off a runway in Japan showed up with a front wheel failure while being towed by a car after an emergency landing.
According to the British Daily Mail newspaper, a prestigious fighter jet worth up to $100 million appeared and fell from the cockpit side. A US Navy fighter jet landed at the Kadena base in the Japanese Okinawa region on December 1 at 2 p.m., the source said. The pilot of the plane made the decision to land as a precautionary measure after noticing an “electrical failure”, after which a car arrived at the base and pulled the fighter onto the runway. It is not known if anyone was on board the fighter when its nose left the runway. No information was provided on potential damage caused by the front of the fighter crashing onto the runway, while the US Navy launched an investigation to determine the cause.
And the Daily Mail quoted a US military official as saying that the investigation was being conducted to monitor any possible safety and security issues. The US Army has 300 F-35 stealth fighters, and the price of the latest version is $78 million.
