As the United States plays the Netherlands in the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar tomorrow, Saturday, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who spent much of his childhood in Paris, said he would support the French team in the World Cup if The United States was eliminated ahead of this team.
Blinken said in an interview with French TV Channel 2: “I support the US team, but if they can’t come out on top, then in this case I will chant: Come on, blue,” referring to the 2018 world champion.
On Sunday, France will play with Poland in the 1/8 finals.
Blinken’s comments came in light of a desire by US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron to showcase the strong political ties between the two allies.
Biden hosts Macron at the White House on his first official visit since the U.S. president took office in early 2021.
