Swiss President Ignacio Cassis has announced that his country will accept European Union sanctions against Russia, including an asset freeze and the deprivation of wealthy Russians of money.
Ignacio Cassis said at a news conference on Monday that Russian military intervention is unacceptable on moral and political grounds.
“The Federal Council has decided to fully accept the European Union’s sanctions, including an asset freeze,” he said.
It should be noted that Switzerland is not a member of the European Union.
The Swiss government was trying to find a balance between its condemnation of the steps taken by Russia and the history of neutrality and mediation between the countries.
