Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter told the Swiss newspaper Blick that he thought Iran should be excluded from the World Cup in Qatar; In light of the ongoing protests that erupted in Iran following the murder of a young woman who was detained by the vice police.
“The Iranian team should be excluded from the World Cup final,” Blatter said, according to Reuters.
The newspaper added that Blatter demanded tough action on Iran, saying he would have excluded Iran from the World Cup if he was still FIFA president.
The newspaper added that Blatter was surprised that current FIFA president Gianni Infantino did not take a clear stance on Iran.
Blatter confirmed that he “will be following the championship, which starts in less than two weeks, from his home in Zurich.”
The World Championship will begin on November 20 and will last until December 18.
