Australian authorities due to unprecedented flooding caused by heavy rains on announced the evacuation of thousands of homes.
After the city’s dams collapsed, authorities ordered 43,000 residents to evacuate immediately.
While the death toll from the floods reached eight, the Australian Meteorological Service warned that strong thunderstorms and heavy rains are expected to cause “life-threatening flash flooding” across much of the Pacific Ocean coastal area.
With the emergency room busy with numerous calls, some residents, including Lismore Mayor Steve Craig, took to social media to seek help.
Emergency services also announced that they have allocated a helicopter to rescue people from the roofs of their homes.
It is noteworthy that the water level in Lismore has not yet reached the expected 14 meters, but the flood waters in the city are already the worst in its history.
