Cross-border German rail services from Poland will be free of load for Ukrainians fleeing the war in their country, the rail operator public German Deutsche Bahn (DB) announced Sunday.
Passengers wishing to make use of the option should present a passport or Ukrainian ID carddit DB.
“This will facilitate travel from the border for those who flee,” he said, adding that the measure had already been put in place.
DB said it worked in close collaboration with railway authorities in Poland, the Czech Republic and Austria, all countries through which Ukrainian refugees could pass.
He said it was also preparing for additional capacity in Cooperation with Polish railway operator in the form of additional carts or special the trains.
Up to six long-distance trains enter Germany daily from Poland, all crossing the border at Frankfurt an der Oder.
