Today, on Monday, the Lebanese Parliament failed for the third time to elect a successor to President Michel Aoun, and the Speaker of Parliament set a date for the next session to elect a President.
Although the parliament failed to elect a new president for the third time, they tried to convene for the fourth time, after the adoption of the law there was no quorum at the first meeting. The most notable results of the vote count were presented by Michel Moawad, who received 39 votes to 10 votes for Issam Khalifa and 13 votes for New Lebanon, with 50 blank sheets registered and two documents cancelled.
The voting process for the election of the President of Lebanon in the fourth session began on Monday morning, and the number of deputies present in the hall reached 110 people. After failing to elect a new Lebanese president, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri called a new session to elect the president of the republic on Thursday, October 27.
It is noteworthy that the term of office of President Michel Aoun ends on October 31, and disagreements remain between political blocs over the formation of a new government. Previously, he vacated the presidency several times after the civil war of 1975-1990. Anticipating a new vacuum, politicians have stepped up their efforts to negotiate a new government led by Sunni prime minister-designate Najib Mikati, who is currently acting prime minister, as presidential powers could be transferred to a new government.
