Former US President Donald Trump believed that the conflict in Ukraine would not have started if he had remained in power after the presidential elections in his country in 2020.
Trump’s statement was made yesterday, Saturday, at a rally of his supporters in Texas, where the former president hinted that he was ready to participate in the next US presidential election in 2024.
Trump has sharply criticized the policies pursued by the current US administration, Democrat Joe Biden, and accused him of failing to comply with the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, which he called “the greatest humiliation of the United States.”
“Now we have a war in Ukraine that could kill hundreds of thousands of people,” Trump said.
He added: “This would never have happened, even in a million years, if I had remained in the presidency. Also, oil prices would be so low that it would prevent them from funding the war… required (in the first place). … (Russian President Vladimir) Putin would never have done this, I know him very well.”
Earlier, Trump expressed his belief that the conflict in Ukraine should end with a “deal”, and not with sending millions of dollars of aid to Kyiv.
Trump also warned that the policies of the current US administration could turn the conflict in Ukraine into a third world war.
