Today, the Lebanese parliament failed to elect a president, despite the fact that this is the third session in which attempts are being made to resolve the outstanding issue.
And it was not possible earlier at the previous two sessions to identify a presidential candidate.
In today’s session, 55 MPs voted for the white paper, and 42 voted for candidate Michel Moawad, while in the previous session he received 36 votes, and in this session he received 6 new votes.
Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri confirmed that there will be open sessions going forward, likely to take place next week.
He explained that the concerted efforts to elect the President of the Republic were suspended.
