The meeting, which was supposed to start at 11:00 local time, was delayed by about 10 minutes due to the lack of a quorum in the hall.
As a result, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri adjourned the session until 11:00 am the following Thursday, 20 October, due to the lack of a quorum to hold the session after 71 MPs were present in the public hall.
The constitutional term for electing a new president of the country began on September 1 and will last until October 31, 2022.
According to the Constitution, the election of the President of the Republic is carried out by a two-thirds majority of the total number of members of the Parliament, consisting of 128 members, that is, 86 deputies, and for the second term – by an absolute majority, that is, 65 deputies.
