Russian investigators said Saturday that three people were killed in a truck explosion on a bridge connecting Crimea, which Moscow has annexed from Ukraine and the Russian mainland, adding that the owner of the vehicle has been identified.
“According to preliminary data, three people died,” the Russian Investigative Committee said in a statement, which said they were “passengers in cars that were near the exploded truck.”
The statement said the bodies of the man and woman were recovered from the water while authorities are trying to identify them. Information about the third body has not been reported.
The explosion occurred on Saturday morning and authorities said part of the bridge had collapsed.
Investigators said that the owner of the car is a man who lives in the Krasnodar Territory in southern Russia, without giving his name.
They added that “investigative actions have been launched at his place of residence.”
They also indicated that they were looking into the “documented trajectory information” of the truck.
