His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and His Excellency Jehun Permov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, attended the celebration of the thirtieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, which took place today at the headquarters of the Ministry Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan in the capital Baku.
At the beginning of the event, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan highly appreciated the historical relations between the Kingdom and Azerbaijan, which cover almost 30 years of communication and dialogue at the bilateral and multilateral levels to resolve issues of mutual interest.
In his opening remarks at the ceremony, Minister Permov announced his country’s support for the Kingdom’s candidacy to host Expo 2030 in Riyadh, commending the Kingdom’s historic position in supporting Azerbaijan at all levels, and that his country’s government looked forward to consolidation and strengthening this connection.
For his part, His Highness the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in his speech at the ceremony, confirmed that relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Azerbaijan have been built on a solid foundation since the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 1992. , noting that the Kingdom is one of the first countries that recognized the Republic of Azerbaijan after it gained independence and established diplomatic relations with it.
His Highness said that today, as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of relations between the two countries, we are at an important stage in the development of these relations under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and his brother, President Ilham Heydar Aliyev, and we are proud we are seeing the growth of these relations in a number of areas.
He explained that the aspects of cooperation between the two countries are numerous, first of all, it is investments in the energy sector through the signing of a memorandum of understanding on the generation of electricity in the Caspian Sea during 2022, as well as laying the foundation for the Khizi project. Absheron wind farm, which aims to generate electricity with a capacity of 240 megawatts, with an investment value of up to $300 million.
His Highness the Minister for Foreign Affairs explained that the relationship between the two countries has proven to be strong thanks to the consensus of views on many topics and issues of mutual interest, as well as through constant coordination and cooperation at the bilateral level and within international institutions, especially the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and United Nations, as well as close cooperation in OPEC and the OPEC Plus group, which contributed to the achievement of the common interests of the two countries.
The two ministers concluded their speech with a tour of a photo exhibition on the occasion, which summarizes the history of historical relations between the two fraternal countries.
