US President Joseph Biden approved a major disaster announcement in Virginia due to floods and mudslides that swept across the country from July 13 to 14.
In a press release today, the White House announced that the US President has ordered federal assistance to complement state and local recovery efforts in affected areas.
The White House confirmed that the president’s actions provide federal funding to the Commonwealth, eligible local governments, and certain private nonprofits on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by floods and landslides in Buchanan and Tazuil counties.
He explained that, under presidential procedure, he is appointing FEMA Director Dean Cresswell and Charles Monroe of the Department of Homeland Security as federal officials coordinating federal recovery operations in affected areas.
