British authorities have decided to ban flights below a certain level over areas of London and Edinburgh during the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Civil Aviation Authority said the decision was made to implement the ban as part of broader security measures, noting that it covers aircraft including private jets, small airships, kites and parachutes. And the British news agency (PA Media) quoted a government official as saying the measure would provide “protective cover” over restricted areas but would not affect commercial flights as they fly above restricted altitudes.
He added that aircraft would not be allowed to fly below 2,500 feet above sea level in central London until 7am (0600 GMT) on September 19, with the option to extend that period.
