Egyptian health authorities have issued guidelines for identifying cases of monkeypox and measures to control those infected and exposed to them, and the Ministry of Health has warned all citizens of the outbreak of monkeypox virus after the first confirmed case of the disease. It is spread by close contact, mainly through direct exposure to skin rashes, and a ministry spokesman said: “The outbreak is still highly concentrated among gay and bisexual men and includes guidance issued by the preventive medicine sector in Egypt. including determining the details of the monkeypox epidemic outside of Africa, modes of transmission, symptoms and signs of the disease, with measures to prevent and reduce the risk of human infection.
In order to know the situation of the virus in Egypt, representatives of preventive medicine in Egyptian health conducted a risk assessment of monkeypox on the basis of the global and local situation and concluded that until the end of May the risks would be low, provided that the risks are periodically reassessed based on the development of the global , regional and local epidemiological situation.
The guidance mentions a number of quarantine procedures at points of entry at airports and ports, where quarantine teams carry out preventive measures for persons arriving from monkeypox endemic countries or countries where new cases have recently been reported; For early detection of cases and prevention of their entry, provided that these measures include: temperature control of persons arriving from abroad through cameras and thermal shutters, as well as visual inspection of passengers and crews of vehicles arriving directly or indirectly. , maximum infection control precautions are taken when dealing with suspected cases. A suspected case is isolated as soon as it is found, separated from the passenger path and transported to the nearest febrile hospital for immediate treatment.
Transmission and symptoms
According to Egyptian evidence, monkeypox is mainly transmitted from animals to humans. Evidence has shown that there is a group of antiviral drugs that are currently being studied to treat cases of monkeypox, including: cidofovir, rizofovir, and tecofirim, which have been used in the past to cases of smallpox and was approved in the Federation of Europe at the beginning of this world, but there is still no data on the effectiveness of these drugs in the treatment of people.
