Alaa Mubarak, the son of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, posted a photo of his father meeting with Egyptian players, including current Al-Ahly club president Mahmoud Al-Khatib, at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Mubarak tweeted: “Wonderful memories of 1984 on the occasion of the arrival of our national team at the Los Angeles Olympics, President Mubarak, God have mercy on him, with the stars of our national team, Captain Mahmoud Khatib Shawki. Gharib and Ibrahim Youssef.
Al-Khatib is regarded as one of Egypt’s football legends throughout history. As for Shauki Gharib, he was known for having recently taken over the training of Sunni teams such as the Olympics, and he also led them in the last Olympics, which were held in the Japanese capital of Tokyo. Earlier, Alaa Mubarak took part in the expression of condolences to Captain Mahmoud Al-Khatib, president of the Al-Ahly club, in connection with the death of his sister in the mosque of Field Marshal Tantawi at a meeting. Al-Khatib’s sister died last Friday and the body was buried at his final resting place after the afternoon prayers of the same day.
