Southampton scored a goal away from Chelsea to win 2-1 on Tuesday in the fifth stage of the English Premier League football.
In the remaining matches, Fulham beat their guest Brighton 2-1, while Crystal Palace drew 1-1 with Brentford.
At St Mary’s, Raheem Sterling scored Chelsea’s goal in the 23rd minute, but just five minutes later Romeo Lafia called back Southampton’s equaliser, with Adam Armstrong securing the home team’s victory in the 45th minute.
The win lifted Southampton’s lead to seven points and finished seventh on goal difference against eighth-placed Chelsea.
