Pakistan has declared a national emergency and requested international assistance as the death toll rises in months-long floods.
The floods caused by intermittent monsoon rains have displaced about 33 million people, most of whom live in poor areas in the south and southeast of the country, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
The unprecedented rain has killed at least 937 people since mid-June, according to the National Emergency Management Agency.
Rain is expected in Sindh and Balochistan, where millions are believed to be waiting for help in hard-to-reach areas.
Chief meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz said flooded rivers are destroying houses, bridges and roads.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered the military to assist the civil administration, and his office said hospitals, which have raised their alert levels, have requested international support and assistance from charities.
