Manchester City head coach Josep Guardiola announced on Friday that Bernardo Silva will remain with the English side, seemingly ending a summer of uncertainty over the Portuguese midfielder’s future.
This comes after reports linked Bernardo Silva to a move to Barcelona. Guardiola even told reporters last Wednesday, after Barcelona and Manchester City drew 3-3 in a friendly at Camp Nou, that he would like to keep Silva’s services, but added that the Portuguese international “loves Barcelona very much”.
The Spanish coach said: “I am not the one who asks Barcelona to forget about the contract with Bernardo. We want him to stay with us, but I don’t want anyone to be unhappy. Firstly, the two clubs must reach an agreement, but we have not received any proposals on this matter for the past two years, ”the Reuters broadcast says.
Guardiola continued: “I don’t want him to leave. He is a great player and person. With only 7 or 8 days left until the end of the transfer window, we will have to resort to the transfer market. stay.”
According to the Associated Press, the Spanish coach has previously stated that he does not want to leave the players in the ranks of the “citizens” if they are unhappy.
However, with the Mercato’s summer transfer window less than a week away, Guardiola said Silva would not leave.
In response to a question about the alleged offer to Silva from French club Paris Saint-Germain, Guardiola said: “We have not received any phone calls from any club regarding Bernardo Silva. That’s why he will stay.”
