Algerian President Abdelmajid Tebboun raised the issue of Algeria joining the BRICS group, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
Tebboune stated at his regular meeting with the national press that the BRICS group was of interest to Algeria given that it was an “economic and political power” given that joining the group would keep Algeria from “polarizing the poles”.
He stressed the need not to “prejudge events” in this regard.
Tebbun emphasized that “Algeria is largely in line with the conditions that would allow it to join the BRICS group.”
Tebboune had previously attended the BRICS summit via video link in late June, and Tebboune spoke at the time about “Algeria’s approach to the need to strive for a new economic system that guarantees parity and equality between different countries,” according to the official Algerian news agency.
