France’s National Assembly President Yael Bron-Bivé reminded MPs of the need to adopt the “right” style of dress, and the debate over the placement of ties divided right-wing and left-wing MPs.
“We cannot come (to the National Assembly) in the dress we want,” said Bron Beve, a party member of French President Emmanuel Macron, in an interview with France 2 TV channel. The rules of the National Assembly say that you must wear a uniform similar to work clothes.
“When you enter the National Assembly under the dome of Parliament, you no longer represent yourself, you are the elected officials of the nation and represent the French, so you should always think that the French should be proud of you,” she said.
“I am not here to play the role of the House of Representatives, I trust the parliamentarians,” Bron-Bivet added.
A parliamentary debate has turned into a dress code debate in recent days after right-wing MP Renaud Muselier criticized the behavior of the Alliance of the Left MPs in the National Assembly, saying they are “dirty leftists” and “spread their noise everywhere.”
