Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling is on track to become Chelsea’s first major deal in the era of his new owner, American Todd Bowley, as media reported on Sunday that the two clubs had agreed on the financial costs of the transfer process.
Sky Sports has said the England international will cost Chelsea £47.5m ($57.1m), while the BBC believes the cost is up to £50m including bonuses.
Four days ago, according to press reports, Chelsea had agreed to Sterling’s personal terms and were awaiting a medical clearance to sign a five-year contract with an option to extend for another year.
The Englishman has won four of nine major league titles since joining City from Liverpool in 2015.
Sterling, who was a key player in Spanish manager Pep Guardiola’s plans in the early years, scored 131 goals in 337 matches.
However, his starting place is in jeopardy with the signing of Jack Grealish for £100m last year, as well as the rise of Phil Foden.
City have stepped up their offensive capabilities this season with the signing of Norwegian Erling Haaland and Argentine Julian Alvarez.
