Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov confirmed that his country does not intend to launch any invasion into Ukraine and said Moscow considers the Donbass region to be part of Ukrainian territory.
Commenting on Western allegations about Russia’s plans to attack Ukraine, Antonov said in an interview with the American channel “CBS” on Sunday: “There is no invasion and there are no plans to launch it.”
“We are in no way trying to control the territory of any foreign country. I want to emphasize that Donbass and (including) Luhansk are part of Ukraine,” Antonov said. said.
“Russia has openly reaffirmed its readiness to continue its diplomatic efforts to resolve all unresolved issues, and Russian forces are deployed in Russia’s sovereign territory, we do not threaten anyone,” he said.
At the same time, Antonov emphasized that the issue of the reality of Crimea, which returned to Russia in 2014, is closed to his country, “We do not even want to discuss it.”
NATO member states persistently claim that Russia is massing more than 100,000 large forces near the Ukrainian border “in preparation for an imminent invasion” of Ukrainian territory.
The Russian government has repeatedly emphasized that it does not intend to launch any operation against Ukraine, and stressed that all the reports about this are baseless and that the purpose of these allegations is to escalate tensions in the region and fuel anti-Russian rhetoric. which justifies new economic sanctions and NATO’s eastward expansion, which it opposes.
