Canadian police said a man was killed and three injured were taken to hospital early Sunday morning in Montreal after a 26-year-old man hit them with a sharp object.
Police in Canada’s second largest city said they responded to an emergency call “about a man in crisis” at 06:50 (1050 GMT) at an apartment in downtown Montreal at 06:50 (10:50 GMT). A police statement said the suspect “stabbed his mother and husband with a sharp object” and then wounded another person in a nearby apartment, as well as a building security guard who tried to intervene.
The 72-year-old stepfather died on the spot, three of the wounded were taken to the hospital, one of them is in critical condition. Police said the suspect was taken into custody at the scene.
Canada has recently seen a rise in violent attacks and massacres, which have left 43 people dead and 38 injured since 2017.
These include a truck driver attacking a Muslim family in London, Ontario, a shooting attack in Nova Scotia, a pedestrian attack in Toronto, and the shooting of six worshipers at a mosque in Quebec.
