The General Assembly of the Arab Athletic Federation met last Thursday in Jeddah to present financial and administrative reports and determine new and newly created positions.
And Zaki Dr. Habib Al-Rabaan has been appointed President of the Arab Athletic Federation for the 2022-2025 session.
Al-Rabaan said in an exclusive statement to Al-Madina: “We look forward to the support of members from all countries and the members are athletics experts and members, we will benefit from them in program development and we have representatives from Libya, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Tunisia and other Arab countries to help us develop the union.
When asked if there is actually a development plan already on the table, or there are meetings to put forward development plans, he said that the meetings will start from tomorrow and we will not stop until we find this development a tangible reality, and we will support women and girls to participate in tournaments, and, God willing, over the years we will achieve what they aspire to.
His Highness Prince Muhammad bin Nawaf, Vice-President of the International Association of Athletics Federations, confirmed to Al-Madina that our Arab world is rich in sports talent and said that he trusts the Arab Federation to support, improve and develop these talents, wishing the new council every success.
Members of the General Assembly appreciated the atmosphere at the meeting held today in Jeddah, in the presence of the Vice-President of the International Association of Athletics Federations, Prince Nawaf bin Mohammed and the President of the Arab Athletics Federation at the last session, Dr. Ahmed Al-Fadil, together with the heads and representatives of the Arab federations .
Salim Al-Omari from the Sultanate of Oman was also recommended as Vice President for Asia, Mohsen Al-Sibay from Libya was elected Vice President for the African Continent, and Sarah Al-Tuwai from Tunisia as Vice President for Women. a position that is created for the first time in the Board of Directors of the Federation.
Ms Sarah Al Twaibi, Vice President of the Arab Women’s Federation, said in a statement to Al Madina that the position was created to develop women’s athletics in the Arab world, as there are so few of them so far, and confirmed that she had performed with development ideas, and several meetings will be held to discuss ideas and present an implementation mechanism.
Eight members of the new board of directors won, they are Tabet Sorour from Qatar, Walid Turki from Iraq, Faisal Al-Dassam from Kuwait, Al-Moez Abbas from Sudan, Muhammad Ghazlan from Morocco, Yassin Al-Wael from Algeria, Fada Al-Shufi from Syria and Mazen Al-Khatib from Palestine.
The Board of Directors of the Arab Athletic Federation announced the appointment of Dr. Abdulela Al-Silvi as Secretary General of the Federation and Bariki Al-Shamri as Assistant Secretary.
The Assembly witnessed the honoring by the President of the Saudi Federation of a number of former heads and members of the Arab and Saudi Federation, namely Prince Nawaf bin Muhammad, Suleiman Al-Zaidi, Dr. Ahmed Al-Fadil, Hadi Bakr and Ibrahim Al-Owayran.
