An earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale hit northern Pakistan today, but there were no immediate reports of human or material loss.
The Pakistan Meteorological and Geological Service indicated that the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 218 km in the border area between Afghanistan and Tajikistan.
The quake was felt in the northern part of Pakistan, including the capital Islamabad, as well as the districts of Peshawar, Abbottabad, Swat, Malakand and Chitral.
