The Iraqi Ministry of Youth and Sports said the government’s investigative committee has begun its work to assess the damage caused by the events of the match between Al-Zawra and Air Force (2:1) in the quarter-finals of the Championship Cup.
Alaa Zeidan, director of the Al Shaab International Stadium, said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency: “The Investigative Committee estimated the damage caused by the riots as the destroyed seats were counted, from 800 to 1,000.” He added: “The Ministry of Youth and Sports is obliged to form an investigative commission to assess the damage caused to the stadium and transfer it to the legal department, which is in charge of determining the penalty that will be imposed on the stadium. And he added: “Match supervisor Ali Al-Ghazali submitted his report to the Disciplinary Committee of the Football Association on the events after the end of the match.” And he concluded: “There are riots in all the stadiums of the world, and the committee has begun its work, and recommendations will be submitted to the ministry and the Football Association to consider possible sanctions against BBC fans.”
