Thousands of irregular immigrants have set off in an immigration convoy to the Mexican-American border in connection with the convening of the Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles, which discusses several issues, the main of which is immigration.
And local media reported that the convoy, which set off from the town of Tapachula in southern Mexico, included thousands of people, including women and minor children, mainly from Central and South America, to travel more than three thousand kilometers to the north.
The same sources indicated that the convoy aims to be a “pressure card” on the leaders of the American continent gathered in Los Angeles, while Democratic President Joe Biden hopes to reach a regional agreement on immigration in light of Republican criticism of his policy in the field.
She stressed that the summit is being held in the light of the “boycott” of many leaders of the countries of the continent, led by Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, whose country is Washington’s main partner in solving the problem of illegal immigration.
Mexico is an important station on the migration route between the Americas, as thousands of people cross it each year in search of the American Dream, fleeing poverty, violence, insecurity and natural disasters.
