One person died and eight were injured when a car plowed into a crowd of pedestrians on Wednesday morning in central Berlin, firefighters told AFP.
A police spokesman said the driver was arrested after his car crashed into a shop window on Twentezenstraße shopping street, but it is not yet clear whether this was an accident or a deliberate act.
The Bild newspaper reported that the victim was a man and published a photo of ambulances and police standing by a stretcher. Several police officers were sent to the site near the square where the Islamists attacked on December 19, 2019, and crashed a truck into a Christmas market in the German capital, killing 12 people. The local newspaper BZ reported that the vehicle was a silver Renault model.
A photo circulating on Twitter shows a small car smashing the front of a major perfume chain store.
