An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of East Timor today, and the tsunami monitoring agency warned that the quake could trigger large tsunamis that could reach the Indian Ocean region.
The USGS indicated that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 51.4 km off the eastern tip of the island of Timor, while there was no direct information about the loss of life or property due to the earthquake.
