Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday that Beijing has “absolutely no intention” of building a military base in the Solomon Islands following rumors about the purpose of a recent security deal with Honiara.
The Chinese minister tried to allay international concerns about the security agreement China struck last month with the Solomon Islands, especially from the United States and Australia, who fear it would allow for a Chinese military presence in the archipelago, saying the agreement is ” unequivocal, frank and honest.
