Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is on an official visit to the capital of Qatar, Doha.
Maduro arrived in Doha on Tuesday afternoon for an unspecified visit, according to the Qatar News Agency (QNA). Today, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, received President Maduro, where he reviewed relations between the two countries and ways to develop and strengthen them in various fields, and also discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Qatar and Venezuela have a good historical relationship of cooperation and strong friendship, and in recent years, this relationship has witnessed great progress in many areas thanks to the exchange of high-level visits between the two countries. In particular, Sheikh Tamim made two visits to Venezuela in May and November 2015, while President Maduro made two visits to Doha in January and September of the same year and a third visit in October 2016. In statements to Qatar News Agency on Tuesday, Doha’s ambassador to Caracas, Rashid bin Mohsen Fetais, said President Maduro’s visit was the culmination of a process of relations between the two sides that officially began on May 24, 1973, when both sides of the country agreed to establish diplomatic relations. Bin Fetais noted that 20 agreements and memorandums of understanding have been concluded between Qatar and Venezuela, covering various areas such as air transport, avoidance of double taxation, visa abolition, political consultations, judicial, financial, customs, tourism and agricultural fields.
