Moroccan police arrested 170 Meknassi Club football fans on Tuesday suspected of involvement in new riots in Casablanca, four days after the death of a cheerleader in a crowd that shocked public opinion. A fan of the Al Meknassi club, suspected of their involvement in causing material damage to public and private property, as well as in violence against public officials.
This happened on the occasion of the match of the team representing the city of Meknes (central north) in the amateur section (as the third division of the local league) in front of the host, the Sports Federation, at the Al Arabi Stadium. Al-Zauli in Casablanca, which was supposed to take place without spectators for “security reasons”, according to the “tournament” website.
However, “about 2,500 Meknassi supporters deliberately entered the stadium (…) before many of them began rioting and violence and pelted members of the public forces and the property of citizens with stones,” according to what was said by a security source. .
According to the same source, as a result of these incidents, “five security officials were injured of varying severity” and several cars were damaged, with no mention of casualties among the masses.
A judicial investigation has been launched against the detainees.
